The Festival this year is really bringing things up a serious notch! The headliners this year will be: Jimpster, DJ Dan, Rene Lavice, Krafty Kuts, Hobo, Doc Martin, Stacey Pullen, Czech, Bobby C Sound TV and Funkonomics (who I was able to share a pressing with for Manmade Feature Funk vol 5!). Not only are these champions headlining the Festival...I am in there too! I get to rock out the Garden Stage Saturday night, and will be playing the annual Dewdney contest as well. Bring on the moustachios!

This is going to be a fun night of classic, and new vinyl bombs. I am planning to take out some old school downtempo and trip hop jems to warm things up...and move over to some big beat funkers! I know both Dr. J and The Gaff will be bringing out an encyclopedia of funk classics, 45's, rare grooves and straight up sweetass bombs! I super love that it is a night that represents the old school - but a night that keeps true to the foundation of the art of djing. No controllers, no computers, no cd's...just good old heavy ass vinyl! Not sure how much the new school kids will appreciate a night like this one...but it is nice to educate the new school with goodies and original flavor. Only two turntables, a mixer, stacks of vinyl and kung fu skills to keep in the mix. Hai-ya suckas!

Tomas (aka The Funkee Tomato) not only saved the day by driving me down for the gig (very smoothly and comfortable I might add), but he also ran the go pro camera for the show. We got to dodge out before the evening started, and visited my good friends Pat (Happycat) and Barb at their lovely home in the Cathedral area. Special thanks for letting us roll by for a visit! Next up, we hopped back over to the Artful Dodger, and got ready to lay down the beats! Mikhail and the Round 3 crew did a great job hosting us! Definitely can't wait to roll back to smash the breaks on the dancefloor again...but hopefully with my boy Tomatoes!

March Madness: Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler & Toon town gigs in full effect!
Yo yo! March has been super busy for me: got to dj with Hubbz & Evo at the Ascot in Vancouver, played with Crippled Wheel, Kris K, Sundance Chris & G-Won at the Ruddy Duck in Squamish, rocked Calabash in Vancouver with Alex D, G-Won, Sundance Chris & Cander, and got to open for Adam Askillz with Crippled Wheel in Whistler at Maxx Fish! A super crazy couple of days! My remix 'All the solo def girls dem sugar' got Scoured on the Ghettofunk website and received a super slick review ( www.ghettofunk.co.uk/spinforths-biw…loud-scour-80/ aaaaand hongkongpingpong.co.uk/spinforths-bi…scour-070313/ ) which is sweet for Catalogue Sound! Once I returned from my gigs out west, I got to spin at Souled out with my homies Dr. J and Klen (all vinyl, all goodness). A couple of things I have learned during the past few weeks: East Hastings is a crazy street to walk down (especially with the odd dead guy laying there on the sidewalk), my westcoast homies are the best, and - one must always keep vinyl in any live set they throwdown. It's like that son!

It's a standard formula for world domination and DJ Czech is sticking to it well. First, control you own neighborhood, Czech's initial step into the Canadian underground scene was introducing "Soul Kitchen" to Whistler, British Columbia, Canada's top ski and snowboard destination. That was 1989, Whistler has grown to one of the top sports destinations in the world and Soul Kitchen is still cooking up beats, making it the longest-running club night in Western Canada.
Next, Czech infiltrated the thriving new music scene in Vancouver, BC, and his unique flavour of breaks, turntablism, and comic personality earned him legendary residencies at all of the city's hottest nightclubs and helped establish VanCity's reputation for up front electronic music. Meanwhile Czech had ensured himself household name status on the West Coast, particularly amongst breaks lovers.
Third step- the world. Somehow balancing his residencies with a ridiculous touring schedule Czech has been turning out prestigious clubs and massive raves every single weekend for the last 15 years. He's carted his records throughout Europe, North America and Asia and headlined alongside premier acts such as The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Daft Punk, Parlament, Orbital, Crystal Method, Daft Punk ,Rabbit in the Moon, Porno for Pyros, Shamen, Carl Cox and countless world renowned Dj's. This night is going to be off the chain! With so many other parties going on this new years eve...I do have to say that the line up for this event will be a sweet one...with two rooms of sound...and hell of a range of styles played tonight! The main room will feature: Skratch Bastid (rocking a video set), The Gaff, Conky Showpony & Chris Astro. The 2nd room (The Vault) will feature: Klen, Kemical Reaction, US Marshall, Flatland Funk & myself - Mr Fudge. Even though main room slots are always a blast...I have to say that over the years - the second room vibe and coziness really fits my mature ass (or old ass whatever way you want to look at it). With the gigs slowing down around this time of year, I am heading back into the beat chamber to work on some new tunes and mixes for promotional use - to help get the chocolate out there for peeps to enjoy!

The farewell to Scratch Night Club was sick! This club brought many years of ill entertainment, Canadian and International artists, and many nights of straight drunken craziness! The Saturday night was hosted by Pro Plus Productions, Scratch, Trancidic, Chris Cole and the Fuse Collective. The night featured master Czech, Charly Hustle, Emilio (Fuse Collective), Klen and myself - Mr Fudge (Bomb Lucky). It really was a killer night! Thanks to all the peeps who came out to celebrate with us!
Fuse crew presents LIFTED: featuring Mr Fudge
The boys at Fuse are having me back for a headlining set for their LIFTED series at the Lydia's loft. I played there on Canada day and had a fantastic time. The room reminded me of a house party, and the vibe was just as slick! On Canada day I whipped out a classic chunky vinyl set to make the room bounce...but this time I will hit a spectrum of beats: from midtempo funk, to disco breaks, to some bouncy drum'n'bass. It will be off the chart, and I look forward to keeping the room bumpin! Drunkin kung fu round two...ready to rock!

Finally! The flyer was released this past weekend, and it should be another great festival. I just found out that my set will be Saturday night after prairie house & funk legend - Dr J. I will drop some interesting beats for the Dewdney competition, then will deliver the chunk to the room. The mighty Gaff will be throwing down right after me. Guess the toon town boys will be taking over the Garden stage Saturday night. Wish I could still grow a moustachio for the contest yo...
